GONE UNTIL NOVEMBER

It's been such a long time since I wrote anything on here and my goodness I've missed it dearly. A lot has happened- the biggest thing being Matthew and I got married. I'll write a more in depth piece about this and all of the lovely pictures we can treasure by our amazingly talented and total babe of a photographer Chloe Lee.

Currently I'm very much looking forward to Christmas since I have been so sick lately but things happen for a reason! Halloween and bonfire night seemed to have whizzed by that they have disappeared into the distance like a popping, glittering firework. The dark nights have arrived and bringing with them the opportunity to light every pretty candle in the house, filling each room with the sweets scents of Christmas spice, pumpkin, vanilla and apple.

We have been on a few mini adventures since tying the knot, so I will be sharing some little snaps of those lovely memories we have been making as husband and wife. It makes me long for next summer when I can feel the bubbling salty waves of the sea on my toes, the warmth of late summer sun on my back and the nostalgic aroma of sugary candy floss, hot sugared donuts, fish and chips & fizzing dandelion and burdock in clinking glass bottles.

I'm hoping to write at least weekly from now onwards about daily things, thoughts, musings, ideas, playlists, snaps, recipes etc... Let me know if there's anything in particular you would like me to write about.

Happy November, darlings

XO Natasha

PART OF YOUR WORLD | ILLUSTRATED WEDDINGS

It's Tuesday and in my mind that means weddings, I've got weddings on my mind pretty much 24/7 as Matt and I are edging ever closer to getting married and it's giving me butterflies!

I had to share this illustration I did for the darling Megan of Briar Rose blog and her lovely husband, they are like Ariel and Eric and had such a magical wedding which is featured on her beautiful blog! It's like a slice of Disney loveliness and I wanted this illustration to reflect all those whimisical elements and pretty pastel colours! Megan was so kind and lovely about the illustration, she is a total sweetheart!

We actually have the same wedding photographer and I'm so looking forward to Chloe being there on our wedding day to capture all those special moments! Definitely check out Chloe's ahhhmazing portfolio and Megan's super gorge blog, her hair and outfits are sooo dreamy!

I'm available for commissions so if you'd like a price list or a more bespoke quote just send me an email velvetwolves@live.com or message me on my website. I've had questions about anything from a wedding portrait to bridesmaid t shirts (hell yeah!) I'd love to hear from you!

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Sundays are the only day Matt and I seem to get free anymore so we've been spending them wisely lately, taking trips to our favourite places, thinking about what we'll do in the future, talking about exciting wedding plans, giggling and forever searching for new tearooms and trying out amazing cakes.

Last Sunday we decided to visit Lincoln, where we used to live and realised we do miss it and it's very dear in our hearts. We talked about how lovely it would be to renovate an old house, have breakfast in the garden and start a little family, scooping up our belongings and our baby rabbit to live in a historic city sounds like the absolute dream.

A giant Starbucks and lots of tiny paces up a very steep hill later, we took in the epic grandeur of the cathedral, pointed at cute little houses and oohed and aahhed at all the little trinkets, teas and cakes we found in the tiny treasure troves that Lincoln has. I lit a candle and wrote a prayer for those lovely people we are now without and that we miss with all our hearts, I hope they are somewhere peaceful with endless tea and laughter and cake always. Speaking of cake, we had the most amazing peanut butter and chocolate cake from Bunty's that is perfectly perched on the slope of Steep Hill. It was wonderful!

Afterwards we contemplated ice cream but decided we'd rather have a lovely meal out together so we could talk more about wedding plans and other lovely things but the place we were hoping to dine in was fully booked to the brim, we shall visit again one day. We headed home as the sun was going down, back to our little family life with our bunny we missed so much and had a lovely night in with chinese food and good films.

Hope you had a darling weekend lovelies. What are your favourite places to visit?

BRIDE DIARIES | PLANNING A WEDDING

So as you have probably already figured out, we're planning our lovely spring wedding and by heck it's taking a lot of time and energy, but it will all be super happy and fun in the end.

I thought I'd share with you some of my advice and tips as a bride to be if, like me you're planning a wedding or even if you're not engaged yet or have recently been asked *massive congratulations!*

1. tea and cake | now these two go hand in hand, not only are they totally necessary for planning a wedding but you're also sort of researching as you go along. we're having afternoon tea at our wedding, an avid tea drinker and lover of all things alice in wonderland, there couldn't *not* be a the party! so if like us tea and cake are going to be a part of your wedding, then definitely make this a top priority! take your mum, bridesmaids, groom, and most importantly your dad- he's gonna be the one who sways you one way or another from decadent chocolate fudge cake to tradish victoria sponge all stacked up with homemade strawberry jam and sumptuous vanilla buttercream. all dads like tea and cake.

2. the vision | this has to be something you love, both you and your other half. it's so incredibly easy to get swept off your feet in a pinterest whirl of glitter, white peonies and balloons (yeah, so this might be what we're having, but hey) but the absolute best thing you can do is sit down (this is where point one comes into play) and talk through all your thoughts and dreams and then think about how you're going to make them a reality.

3. pinterest & other social media | as a bride to be i'm actually addicted to most forms of social media and while they are a massive help, keep reminding yourself about point two! use social media as your friend, an extension of mood boards, scribbles in endless notebooks and a place to keep everything, all in one place. it's an ideal thing to have specified pinterest boards labelled up with ideas for things like *the dress*, flowers, cake, decor ideas and also links to lovely blog articles and diy ventures you've found after all those hours of trawling the net.

4. buy yourself a notebook| or folder or high sketchbook, whatever you're happy with, maybe even go with a small notebook for all those thoughts and wedding ideas you're going to have on the commute to work, brushing your teeth, midway through a bubble bath, this one is probably going to be your new BFF. it's really nice having all those pinterest boards and shizzz but there's nothing like getting your bridesmaids over and feeling like your in a 90's film with cherryade, glitter and loads of pritt stick.

5. budget | this is boring but i promise once you've sorted it the planning process will run much smoother! have a proper chat with your other half and parents (if they're in on the budget too) and think how much you actually want to spend and how much it is going to be physically possible to do so. yes a vintage car to the wedding would be gorgeous but if it means eating nothing but porridge for weeks it suddenly doesn't seem like such a good idea. you can do this!!!

6. diy | so if you're on a budget then doing things yourself is going to get you through and you'll have loads of fun on the way! it allows you to personalise your day without overspending and you'll have days out in lovely places and in years to come look back and be like 'oh yeah remember that lovely afternoon in lincoln when we had strawberry cider in that gorgeous pub... oh yeah we were teapot hunting for the wedding weren't we?!'

7. the dress | i thought i'd mention this because again it's super easy to get persuaded you need to have a certain type and look a certain way, but the best thing is getting to swoosh around in loads of different dresses. definitely try on, take people who you love but who will also be honest with you, keep it to maybe two or three because having loads of opinions can get confusing and you'll be overwhelmed. have afternoons out, try looking in different places, also if you're on a budget try looking on ebay, preloved, sellmyweddingdress, preownedweddingdresses, there's loads online and a lot of them are still new so you can find yourself a dream dress for a fraction of the price! also look into maybe having one made, there's beautiful designers and dressmakers out there who don't charge the earth.

8. the venue | this is down to you and your fiancee, definitely think about what sort of feel you'd like, places that mean something to you, always consider budget and location. you will have to compromise on things even if you have plenty of dollaz! but that's ok, you can get creative and always come back to how you both feel and can you see yourselves getting married here? all the small details will become even more minuscule on the day so don't worry if you love the venue but hate the colour of the floor or something! if you're on a budget think about maybe having the wedding midweek or in the autumn/ winter months, a local pub can be a grand place for a wedding if you're after something more homely and intimate. look at national trust locations too as they are stunning and don't always cost a massive amount.

9. food & drink | definitely get loads of quotes if you're having a caterer in for your wedding, if it's all in-house then get tasting, often venues will sort out a bespoke menu for you for the same price! have what you like to eat, if fish and chips is your fave then have that, don't feel pressured into having a six course stuffy dinner, it's so much better to have more relaxed, familiar food especially if you're wedding is going to be a reflection of you both! always ask your venue about corkage, if they don't have it then you know you can buy all your drinks in advance and it's going to be a massive saving plus you can have exactly what you want! if you have to have theirs talk to them about what drinks you'd like on the day and again they should be able to whip up bespoke drinks menus and even personalised cocktails! woo!

10. be happy | remember this is meant to be an adventure, it shouldn't be stressful, i know it can be at times when you're having to be the bride/groom, wedding planner, florist and stylist all in one but it doesn't have to be! talk to your family and friends they would all love to be involved in some aspect of your big day, talk about things that you're worried about and nine times out of ten there will be a simple and easy way round it!

WE SINK

Hello lovelies, just a quick update on life lately, summer days, always carrying a huge bottle of water around with me, family barbecues in the sunshine, wedding plans, exciting emails and being asked to be a bridesmaid for my best friend, it's been quite a week! I'd love to share some advice & wedding planning posts over at natashalikestea so definitely keep an eye out on there for updates.

Hope you're all having a wonderful summer, looks like it's here to stay! I can't lie I am totally looking forward to it being socially acceptable to wear tights with dresses, I'm in no way a summer person, but I am thankful for all of the light nights, the open windows with floral breezes coming in, the fact you can eat ice lollies in bed, pretty sandals & teddy bear ice cream cones.

wedding | invitations

It's midsummer which means lots of weddings have been happening lately and with my own on its way I thought about the whole planning process and the different elements that make up getting wedding ready. As an illustrator I'm designing my own wedding stationery and any paper pretties that will make up our wedding day, which got me thinking about illustrating a simple, pretty line of affordable stationery that brides and grooms can personalise. This is the first design which I shared yesterday.

The great thing about these illustrated paper goods are that you can print them yourself, you can choose pink and glitter envelopes, pretty white paper, rustic brown paper, print them onto tea towels, make up badges or t shirts even! There's so many options and you can tailor them exactly to your taste and aesthetic.

If you'd like something more bespoke I accept commissions for wedding invitations and even wedding portraits https://www.etsy.com/listing/196732097/illustrated-portrait-wedding which make a really darling keepsake & gift to your parents!

FEARNE COTTON WEDDING ILLUSTRATION

I've been working on this wedding illustration of the darling Fearne Cotton and her new husband Jesse Wood. I'm accepting commissions for custom wedding illustrations, which can be found here. It's something I'd love to get into doing more of as I'm loving all things bridal, as a bride to be myself!

I DO #1

So I've been super busy planning our wedding and thought I'd share some ideas for bridesmaids because who doesn't love a pretty dress with pastel nail polish and candy pink lipstick? Unfortunately this dress just sold out but there are so many pretty ones to choose from and I adore mismatched bridesmaid dresses, they're so individual like disney princesses.

Peach & nude dresses are darling and they will suit a spring wedding, pretty lace and florals with neon pink cheeks and glitter nails.

I can't wait to go cupcake testing with copious amounts of tea & giggles. There's so many fun things to do when you're planning a wedding, it doesn't all have to be super stressful.

If you'd like me to share more wedding related inspiration and posts just leave a comment below and I'd love to do a wedding series. #ido

SUNDAY MORNING

Past weekends lately have been impromptu picnics, woodland walks, sneaky dairy ice creams and visits to pretty places (potential wedding venues & inspiration treasure troves) There's something lovely about the english countryside and even lovelier when it's literally on your doorstep.

A few Sundays ago we travelled to Norwood park which isn't very far for us and it was just gorgeous. They were holding a wedding fayre and we'd never been to one before so it was all new and exciting. Floral wallpaper, homemade cakes and gorgeous quintessential english charm, it had it all. All the people there were super lovely too and talking about ways to pin flowers into hair and which ice cream we might have, tasting little segments of wedding cake and looking at darling photography made it seem much more real.

We just have to get something booked, but it's easier said than done when pennies are few. It was such a lovely weekend though and we had lots of fun attempting silly pictures in the ground while the wind whipped through our hair. Hello, spring.

It's been over two months since our engagement and we've been busy decorating our house with floral wallpaper, vintage finds, lillies and a white vintage bed. We've been talking about wedding plans, ideas for the ceremony, flowers and playlists. It's all overwhelming but super lovely.

We are engaged! Matt asked me on a rainy afternoon at the V&A on our eight year anniversary, it was perfect. I hugged him and said 'yes, of course!' I kept asking him 'omg really, really?' It felt so unreal. We ran in the rain to the South Kensington tube station after he asked me to go and choose a ring. It was so special and I thought how lovely it was of him it was to want to take me and pick together. Oxford Street was the only place we could think of, we were splashing in massive puddles, the rain was pouring down, I was laughing and crying at the same time. I finally settled on one that I really loved from Selfridges, it's beautiful vintage gold with a moonstone from an old brooch. We were so excited and overwhelmed, we wanted to tell all our lovely family & friends, who are all very happy! Here's to many, many happy days! ♥
